    Cut off for transferring entries to someone else (please note: transferred entry must remain in original category if transferred after 12 March 2022).

  • Cancellation Policy

    Cancellations/withdrawals are not possible for this event however you can transfer your entry to another person or change your entry to a different distance up until 12 March 2022 at no cost.

    Please note: It is each participant’s sole responsibility to ensure that they can attend and compete in the event on the day.

  • Transferring your entry to a different distance

    Participants can request to transfer their entry to a lesser or greater race distance up until 11.59pm (NZT) 12 March 2022 before the event, or until race distances are sold out, subject to the following terms:

    • To request a transfer from one race distance to another log into your EventPlus account and  select Change Category on the Summary page on or before 12 March 2022. After this date, such requests can no longer be made.
    • Where a participant requests to transfer to a greater distance and space is available, the athlete is required to pay the difference in entry fees between the two distances.
    • Where an athlete requests to transfer to a shorter distance event and space is available, the difference in entry fees will not be refunded.
  • COVID-19 Policy

    What happens if the Middle-earth Halfling Marathon is unable to take place on the advertised date (2 April 2022) for reasons relating to the COVID-19 pandemic?

    Where possible, the event will be rescheduled to our backup date of Saturday 5 November 2022. In the event that this happens, this will be communicated with all registered participants and their registration will be moved automatically to the new date. We will provide as much notice of this as we can.

    If for reasons beyond the Event Organisers control the event is not able to take place at all, all registered participants will be notified and receive refunds for their race registration and any additional purchases (less the booking fee $20).

    What if the event is reschedule and I can’t make it for the new date?

    If participants are not able to make it for a new scheduled date for the event, a refund option (less $20 booking fee) will be given on request.

    What if I am unable to attend the event due to COVID-19 restrictions where I live?

    If you have registered for the Middle-earth Halfling Marathon and your travel plans are affected by New Zealand or International travel restrictions, we can provide a refund on your booking, less the booking fee up until the event date on request.

  • What is included in my registration?

    Included in your registration for the Middle-earth Halfling Marathon is entry into the race distance of your choosing, a specially designed finishers medal, an exclusive branded souvenir Stein and a collapsible reusable water cup for use at the water stations across the course. Please note: there will not be any single use cups or plastic at the water or aid stations to reduce our waste for the event.

  • Do you have a COVID-19 Policy for the event if it cannot go ahead as planned?

  • When do registrations close?

    Registrations will be open online until the 1st April or capacity numbers are reached. Same day registrations may be available if we have remaining capacity.

  • Can I bring some friends/family along to support?

    Of course, we would love for you to bring your fellowship along to support. Supporters and spectators will be able to access the Halfling Event Village at The Shire’s Rest throughout the race duration and will be able to access the start and finish lines at set times. Only race participants will be able to access the Movie Set and surrounding farmland during the race. A full event day schedule will be shared closer to the time.

  • What are the Transport options?

    We will be offering free return transport options from central locations in Matamata and Cambridge and there will be ample parking available at each location. A full schedule and confirmed locations will be shared on the Plan Your Adventure page soon.

  • I’m planning to drive to The Shire’s Rest, will there be parking?

    Parking at The Shire’s Rest is limited and only available for participants who select this option at time of registration. An official parking pass will be issued and emailed to participants who select this option before the event and must be presented on arrival on the event day.

  • Will spectators be able to enter Hobbiton Movie Set to see the runners?

    Not during the event. Only event participants will enter the Movie Set as a part of their event course. Spectators will be able to access the Halfling Village at The Shire's Rest, and the start and finish line zones at Buckland Landing. 

    We will be offering a range of special exclusive tour experiences for spectators and participants on the Sunday to enjoy a visit to the Movie Set on the Sunday, or the chance to join one of our regularly scheduled tours at a special rate. You will be sent information on how to access these exclusive deals and tours in the lead up to the event.
