Booking Information

  • Do I need to book in advance?

    Yes, we strongly recommend booking in advance as our tours do sell out. You can make a reservation online by clicking here. Alternatively you can make a reservation by calling us on (07) 888-1505 or by contacting us here.

    Please note, all of our tours are subject to availability at the time of booking. 

  • How do I amend or cancel my booking?

    Amending a booking

    If your travel plans change and you need to amend the date or time of your booking you can do this by contacting our Reservations team via phone on 07 888 1505 or by contacting us here. Once we receive your amendment request we will do our best to amend your booking.

    Please note, all of our tours are subject to availability.

     

    Cancelling a booking

    If you wish to cancel your booking, you may do so by using the above contact details or replying directly to your booking confirmation that was emailed to you when you made your booking. Click here for our cancellation policy.

  • What happens if I am late for my tour?

    If you are going to be late for your tour, we recommend you call us as soon as you are able to so we can discuss options with you. If you are unable to call us and arrive late, we will do our best to put you on the next available tour. Please note that if we are extremely busy, the next available tour may not be on the same day.

Hobbiton™ Movie Tour

  • What is the difference between the tour from Matamata, TSR (The Shires Rest) & Rotorua Hobbiton Shop?

    There is no difference in the tour itself.

    If you are self-driving we suggest choosing The Shires RestTM  (501 Buckland Road, Hinuera, Matamata) as there are no off-set transfers included. We offer free parking for the duration of the tour with spaces to suit campervans.

    The Matamata i-SITE (45 Broadway, Matamata) and Rotorua Hobbiton Shop tours (1235 Fenton Street, Rotorua) are for those who need to transport to and from our direction location at The Shire's Rest.

  • Will my tour still operate in wet weather?

    Yes, we operate in all weather conditions. Umbrellas are provided in the event of rain and we highly recommend you dress appropriately for the weather, with enclosed footwear.

    In the event of extreme weather conditions we reserve the right to make alternative tour arrangements for you.

  • Do I have to go on a tour or can I go by myself?

    To ensure all our guests have the complete experience the only way to access the Hobbiton Movie Set is with a fully guided walking tour.

  • Is the Movie Set wheelchair accessible?

    While our Movie Set is not very wheelchair friendly, we do have options available for those who may not be able to complete the walking tour. 

    Please contact one of our Reservations team to discuss your needs. 

  • Can I fly my drone at Hobbiton Movie Set?

    The flying of drones is not permitted on or around the Movie Set as the property owner does not allow it.

    Any out-of-hours drone use for promotional purposes is at the discretion of the property owner and must be pre-approved by the Hobbiton Movie Set Marketing Department.

  • Are they still filming?

    Filming at Hobbiton Movie Set has finished and tours running as normal.

  • Is there parking at The Shire's Rest?

    Yes, we have ample free parking at The Shire’s Rest available for customers, including space for camper vans and large vehicles.
