COVID-19 Update

Last updated 24 September 2020

The Waikato Region, where Hobbiton™ Movie Set is located, is currently in Alert Level 1.

The Movie Set is open, and our tours are operating.

The health and safety of our staff, visitors and the wider community is our priority at this time so we are taking extra precautions with our tours.

While there are mixed alert levels across the country, we will be collecting data from all customers for contact tracing purpose.

This page will be regularly updated with information regarding Hobbiton Movie Set's tour experience offering and opening hours.

We are open and look forward to sharing our slice of real Middle-earth with you!

  • Alert Level 1

We are open and our tours are operating. We have some additional health & safety precautions in place to keep our staff and customers safe at this time.

We look forward to welcoming New Zealanders to the Shire!

  • Health & Safety precautions

    Increased Cleaning Practices
We have increased our daily cleaning practices, including sanitising high touch surfaces in our facilities multiple times a day and sanitising our buses between each tour.

    Contact Tracing
We have the NZ Covid Tracer App QR code on display and available for visitors to scan. In addition to this, while NZ is in mixed alert levels, we are capturing all visitor contact information at Check In to ensure we have an accurate record of all customers. This data is being handled with care and will be destroyed in line with Government guidelines.

    Hand Sanitiser
We have installed permanent hand sanitiser units across all sites, including on our buses and on the movie set.

    Masks
In line with Government guidelines for Alert Level 1, masks and face coverings are not a requirement while on tour at Hobbiton Movie Set. Our tours include a short 15 minute bus ride from The Shire's Rest to the Movie Set. If you choose to wear a mask during the bus ride or tour, you are most welcome to do so.

    Social Distancing
Our team may choose not have physical contact with our visitors while on tour, this includes shaking hands, high fives and any handling of visitor's personal belongings (e.g cameras, phones) during tours.

To protect the health and safety of our staff and customers, Hobbiton staff reserve the right to deny entry to our venues and tour experiences to any persons and groups exhibiting any potential COVID-19 symptoms (including but not exclusive to fever, cough and shortness of breath).
