Some special moments visitors choose to spend at Hobbiton Movie Set include:
Birthdays and milestone occasions

Below we will explore how you can celebrate some of these moments in The Shire...
Feast like a Hobbit in an iconic venue!
No celebration is complete without good food and cheer. Hobbiton Movie Set dining experiences are hosted in fully themed venues on the Movie Set inspired by all the comforts of the Shire and designed to be shared with your fellowship.
Depending which dining experience you choose to book, you could be one of the first on the Movie Set enjoying the morning light, sipping bubbles in behind-the-scenes corners of the Movie Set, or wandering through The Shire under the moonlight with lantern in hand... Check out our "Which Hobbiton Tour is Right for you" blog to compare experiences.
In the area with your family or planning a group gathering? Make an adventure out of it and join in one of the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour experiences from daily shared tours, to private tours to one of the annual special events on offer.
Pop the question in one of the most enchanting locations in New Zealand!
The storybook scenery, enchanting feelings Hobbiton Movie Set offers creates a magical backdrop for many unforgettable proposals.
As your visit will be during a fully guided tour experience, you will need to remain with your guide and group as you move around the Movie Set. That being said, there are a few ways to find a few quiet moments for yourselves.
Below are some of our top tips for planning the perfect proposal during your time in The Shire:
Our top tip would be exploring a Private Tour experience, this way you will have an entire tour slot to yourselves with your tour guide and take any moment along the tour to ask your special question, a truly unforgettable experience.
When you arrive at The Green Dragon™ Inn you have 15 – 20 minutes to enjoy your complimentary beverage and explore the area. This offers the opportunity to find some space to pop your question with time to take a couple of photos and toast to your adventure with a complimentary Hobbit™ Southfarthing™ beverage.
If you are joining a special event or an experience that includes a meal at Hobbiton Movie Set there will be further opportunities for you to create a private moment.
It is always a great idea to let the Hobbiton team know you are planning to do this when you book as it helps your guide to be able to assist if possible. They are always discrete and happy to be a part of your special moment.
Already popped the question and looking to tie the knot? We also do weddings!
Honeymoon in a slice of real Middle-earth!
What better way to celebrate than starting your adventure in The Shire? Wander the winding paths through the village of Hobbiton and explore the storybook landscapes and enchanting Hobbit Holes scattered across the Movie Set. Add a little more magic to your adventure by booking an Evening Banquet Tour, where you will enjoy a fully guided tour of Hobbiton Movie Set before enjoying a sunset at The Green Dragon Inn with a drink in hand, a banquet feast fit for a Hobbit, finishing with a lantern lit walk back through the village under the moonlight.
Please note that our dining experiences and special events can book out very far in advance, so we highly recommend booking your special occasion in as early as you can to ensure a successful celebration in The Shire.
Hobbiton is more than a Movie Set, it’s a place to create unforgettable moments. However you choose to mark your special occasion, we look forward to sharing it with you here in The Shire.
