Our Why We operate in the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand and recognise our impact on people, environment and the tourism sector. Guided by kaitiakitanga, we’re measuring our emissions so we can make informed decisions, reduce what we can, and be transparent with our visitors, team, suppliers, and community.
Certification Hobbiton Movie Set has achieved Ekos Carbon Conscious certification for organisational operations throughout the 2025 financial year.
Data & Assurance Assurance was achieved at a Reasonable level for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and at a Limited level for Scope 3 emissions using majority of historical data, with opportunity to improve data quality.
Reduction Performance & Targets 2025 is our first measured year (no base-year comparison yet), helping us better understand our emissions as we move into the 2026 financial year data and set robust targets
Current efforts underway include:
Energy efficiency across facilities and equipment.
Waste minimisation and improved recycling on site.
Lower-impact freight and travel choices with suppliers and crew.
Staff engagement and training to embed everyday reductions.
Included: All applicable Scope 1 & 2; mandatory Scope 3 (freight, business travel, waste, fuel & energy-related activities), plus purchased goods.
Excluded: Staff commuting; downstream transport; purchased services (data limitations); guest travel to/from site; end-of-life of souvenirs; construction emissions for set development; off-site wastewater treatment (unknown characteristics); embodied emissions from food & beverages. These will be reviewed and included where material and feasible.
