EKOS Carbon Conscious Certification

Our Why
We operate in the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand and recognise our impact on people, environment and the tourism sector. Guided by kaitiakitanga, we’re measuring our emissions so we can make informed decisions, reduce what we can, and be transparent with our visitors, team, suppliers, and community.

Certification
Hobbiton Movie Set has achieved Ekos Carbon Conscious certification for the organisational operations of the 2026 financial year (April 2025 – March 2026). This follows a successful base year measurement for the 2025 financial year.

Data & Assurance
Assurance was achieved at a Reasonable level for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and at a Limited level for Scope 3 emissions using majority of historical data, with opportunity to improve data quality.

Reduction Performance & Targets
2026 is our second year to be measured, and gives us insight into how our emissions have shifted in response to operational changes. Alongside our base year data (2025 FY), we now have a clear picture of our key impact areas, including mobile combustion, energy usage, business travel and upstream freight.

Using this information, we have set practical emissions reduction targets, and developed an emissions reduction strategy to help us achieve our goals. Our reduction targets and strategy will be reviewed annually alongside the results from each emissions audit going forward.

Current efforts underway include:

  • Energy efficiency across facilities and equipment

  • Waste minimisation and improved recycling on site

  • Lower-impact freight and travel choices with suppliers and crew

  • Staff engagement and training to embed everyday reductions

Organisational & Reporting Boundaries
